History

The ancient history of Palakkad is mysterious. According to William Logan, author of the Malabar Handbook, the Pallava dynasty of the Kanchi may have invaded Malabar in the 2nd or 3rd century AD. One of their headquarters is a place called'Palakada', which is Palakkad today. Malabar was invaded by many ancient South Indian rulers. The Palakkad district is made up of part of the former Malabar district. Hyder Ali later conquered the Palakkad area owned by Zamorin. Therefore, the entire territory of Pallakkada fell into the hands of the ruler of Mysore, Hyder Ali, and his son Tipu Sultan. The war between Tipu and the East India Company ended in the 1872 treaty, and all of Tipu's Malabar property was ceded to Britain. Gradually, these became part of the Malabar district of the Presidential Palace of Madras.
