The Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is about 47 square kilometers in size. However, its small size hides the beauty and diversity of its inhabitants. The sanctuary is largely made up of rhododendron and oaks and covers a thickly wooded steep landscape in the Kumaon highlands, with heights reaching 2,500 m. Chir trees populate the hillsides at lower elevations. Ghoral, Kakar, wild boar, monkeys, Himalayan black bears, jackals, Indian red fox, and porcupines live in the sanctuary. Even the leopard, despite its elusiveness. It's also a birder's paradise, with over 200 different kinds of resident and migratory birds. Inside the sanctuary, there are numerous locations to stay, including the Mary Budden Estate.
